Wedding apparel for man
Men are lucky. They don’t have to jump through the kinds of hoops that women do on the day of their wedding. They don’t have to get ready hours early, as putting on whatever it is you’re wearing probably only takes 10 minutes at most, hopefully after you’ve taken a shower. That doesn’t mean there aren’t things to consider.
For instance, if you’ve rented a tuxedo, do you absolutely have to wear the cummerbund? That answer is an emphatic ‘no’. Having said that, the decision should depend on what you as a couple decide, and of course if you’re not wearing one then your groomsmen shouldn’t be wearing one either. We’ve always wondered if we were wearing them with the right side up anyway, and during the day, they tend to start spinning around. The original purpose for wearing cummerbunds was to replace the vest that British soldiers initially wore in India when they were occupying the country because it was cooler than the vest. You’re under no obligation to continue that tradition.
Next comes the shirt that comes with the tuxedo. If you’re going to wear a tux, you should wear the ruffled shirt. It’s actually not so bad these days, as the cuts leave a lot more room around the body than they used to. So, you’ll be a lot more comfortable than you would have been years ago.
With the tuxedo shirt you’re going to get a bowtie, and you’ll probably get cufflinks. You will have to wear the cufflinks because there’s no other way to close the cuffs on your shirt, but it doesn’t hurt to have a little bit of bling there anyway. When it comes to the bowtie, you obviously have the choice of a bowtie or a regular tie, but a regular tie just doesn’t look right with the collar of a ruffled shirt. Besides, today bowties come already fully assembled, and you just have to get the clasp into the hook and you’re done.
